Is Your Website Ready for AI Search?

Search has changed faster in the last two years than it did in the decade before.

When we wrote here about search in 2023, artificial intelligence was already starting to change how people found answers online. New Q1 2026 research from one of our primary technology partners shows just how much that shift has grown. Artificial intelligence is no longer a future issue for business websites. It is already shaping which sites get found, understood, and recommended.

For a long time, most businesses thought about search in familiar terms. You wanted your website to show up on Google. You wanted the right keywords on the page. You wanted people to find your services, click through, and contact you.

That still matters.

But artificial intelligence has changed how people search, how answers are created, and how websites get discovered. Today, many customers are no longer typing short phrases into a search box. They are asking full questions and expecting clear answers.

That shift has a real impact on your website.

A recent study from one of our primary technology partners analyzed more than 850,000 websites and 69 million AI crawler visits. The findings showed that websites visited by artificial intelligence systems received 320% more human traffic, 270% more form submissions, and 250% more click-to-call activity than sites that were not visited by those systems.

Those numbers point to a simple truth.

Your website needs to be easy for people to use and easy for artificial intelligence tools to understand.

Website freshness now matters more

An older website may still look fine to you. It may still have your logo, your services, and your contact form. But that does not mean it is ready for the way search works now.

If your website is more than 3 years old, it may be time to take a serious look at a refresh.

That does not always mean starting over. Sometimes a refresh means improving your page structure, updating your service content, adding helpful pages, rewriting outdated copy, or making sure your business details are clear and consistent.

But if your site was built before the recent growth of artificial intelligence search tools, it may not be giving today’s search systems the information they need.

What artificial intelligence looks for

Artificial intelligence tools need clear signals.

They need to understand what your business does, where you work, who you help, and why someone should choose you. If that information is vague, thin, outdated, or buried on your site, your business may be harder to recommend.

Important website elements now include:

  • Clear service pages
  • Fresh, useful blog content
  • Accurate business information
  • Pages for specific locations or service areas
  • Easy-to-find contact details
  • Consistent information across your website and business listings
  • Helpful answers to common customer questions

The study found that each blog post was associated with a 7% increase in AI crawler visits. It also found that each additional website page was associated with a 4% increase in crawler visits.

That does not mean you should add pages just to add pages.

It means your website should answer more of the real questions your customers are asking.

Your website should work harder now

A good website is no longer just an online brochure.

It should help visitors decide whether you are the right fit. It should explain your services in plain language. It should guide people toward calling, booking, requesting a quote, or starting a conversation.

It should also give search tools enough clear information to understand your business.

For example, a general “Services” page may not be enough anymore. If you offer five major services, each one may deserve its own page. If you serve multiple cities or customer groups, your website should make that clear.

Specific content helps people. It also helps search tools connect your business with more detailed questions.

Signs your website may need a refresh

Your site may be due for an update if:

  • It is more than 3 years old
  • Your services have changed
  • Your copy feels thin or outdated
  • You do not have helpful blog content
  • Your pages do not answer common customer questions
  • Your phone number, hours, or service area are hard to find
  • Your site loads slowly or feels hard to use on a phone
  • You have only one general page for all your services
  • Your Google Business Profile does not match your website

These issues can affect how customers see you. They can also affect how search tools understand you.

What to do next

Start with a practical review.

Look at your website and ask:

  • Can someone understand what we do in 10 seconds?
  • Do we explain each major service clearly?
  • Do we answer the questions customers ask before they contact us?
  • Is our business information current and consistent?
  • Does our website reflect how people search today?

If the answer is no, or even “not sure,” it may be time for a refresh.

Artificial intelligence is changing search, but the goal is still simple. You want the right people to find you, trust you, and contact you.

Your website plays a major role in that process.
